Abstract. The authors discuss the difficulties that emerged as a result of the spread of COVID-19 viral infection, the epidemic situation, and the pandemic announced by the WHO, in the context of Moscow and the Moscow Region. The text emphasizes the health problems of the elderly who are forced to (self)isolate, of pregnant women, children, and other categories of citizens. Pointed out are those difficulties that appeared in the capital city’s health care in connection with mass hospitalizations; because of understaffed medical personnel and workers of other medical specializations being used in COVID units, or “red areas”; and because clinics and units are being converted for the new circumstances. The authors talk about the worrisome necessity to wear masks and gloves because of the specifics of the new virus’s spread. The authors also discuss what may be the consequences of the enforced confinement for the isolated people, especially the elderly, and talk about other problems that are to be solved after the pandemic is over, and many more issues.
